First time here? 👉

Another episode in my Road to Glory FM20 series with Mexican side Club Deportivo Guadalajara, or CD Guadalajara, or as I’ll be calling them because it seems like the easy option, Chivas. This Football Manager 2020 series takes us to the Mexican Liga MX and to a club that are only allowed to sign Mexican players – no Brazilian wonderkids for me in this series… We’ve got a decent youth setup, a solid squad and plenty of money – everything looked like it was going to be nice and easy until a familiar face turned up – Director of Football Mike. And the club have now decided he’s going to be in control of all transfers in and out of the club, meaning I’m going to have to live or die by tactical ability and training know how, with no way to buy my way out of trouble…

This is going to be a Director of Football challenge series, with the end of goal of winning the Club World Cup with a team entirely made up of Mexican players.

  3. Ryan Rostron says

Change the squad status of the players you dont want to not needed and move them to the B team. Hopefully that will get Mike off the beach and force his hand

  4. El Cochiloco says

Haha now know what it’s like to be a chivas fan. Knowing we generate money and not spending on players. Lucky we invested properly this past January. That hasn’t always been the case

  5. Ragin Cajun says

Wisconsin is cheesePhiladelphia (Pennsylvania) is cheesesteaks Oh and they throw snowballs at Santa Claus

  6. Kruskay says

If you want Mike to make some signings, you need your first team to miss some players, for example if you have only 15 players in your first team, he will make transfers. But because you have 25+ players in the first squad, he wont. Send the bad ones in your freshly created B team and make your squad look as small as possible.

To explain the League's Cup you need to understand that the Mexican teams are VERY popular in the US (in some cases they're more popular than the local MLS teams). There's a lot of immigrants from Mexico in the US and they've kept their loyalty to their Mexican teams. So this means that the Mexican teams love to play in the US – they get big crowds and a lot of money. The MLS teams also enjoy playing Mexican teams because big crowds mean big money AND the MLS teams are hoping to make in roads with the Latino soccer fans that support Mexican teams. So the two leagues created the League's Cup to make money. In general, the Mexican teams are better than the MLS sides (I expect that'll be very true in your save since the AI really struggles with MLS roster rules, so they're more handicapped than in reality), but that doesn't mean the MLS sides can't win a few games. The League's Cup is really new (first cup was 2019), and there's certainly a lot of 'this is an obvious cash grab' so the fans really haven't bought in at this point. On the non-cynical side it does give Mexican fans a chance to see their team without having to make an expensive trip back to Mexico.

Philly supporter here….That's the third keeper Freese. Plata and Johnson are MLS retreads and aren't actually on the squad. Powell and Akele are also not on the squad. The team usually plays in a 4-4-2 with a diamond formation in the middle. Prysbylko starts up top with Santos and Wooten comes off the bench. It also looks like they sold our 19 yr old starting #10 who in real life is rumored to be moving to the Bundesliga. Kingue, Diaz and Topey are all academy products not actually with the Senior team I believe. We've been rotating 3 center backs recently, only one of which is here in Mckenzie who is rumored to be moving to Rangers in the Scottish league. Oravec is a new acquisition this year who hasn't played much and is atm in his home country practicing with his youth team. All of this is to say that this is not an accurate representation of the Union and I would wholeheartedly expect this team here to get killed. I would expect the actual Union to do better as their starting goaltender would never miss this match (see our Coach) and he's probably the best goalkeeper in MLS, Jamaica's starting keeper and more than likely would have been in Europe if he could play with the ball at his feet. Oh and our Captain, starting right mid, and ex US national team player, Bedoya, is not on the team. I suppose Will Johnson would be his sub-par replacement.

  11. College Football Weekly says

Philadelphia known for cheese? Cheesesteaks, Rocky, Punching Santa in that order

  12. Mr. Ovalle says

philly is not known for cheese…you were right about the cheese steaks sandwiches. could've mentioned the liberty bell which is also in Philadelphia. "City of Brotherly Love"

  13. Bastian Schrøder Larsen says

  14. Andrew Squires says

  15. Cenk Sanivar says

So far what I observed at this save is that Mexican football structure both sportive and administratively are heavily modeled around around American Football (NFL). Mike for instance is practically a GM in the sense that has free hand at the transfers and not liable to the coach although an NFL GM also hires and fires the coach whereas here it’s the other way around. The avg points help determine your future placement in some areas such as the round to pick players for the next season and in Mexico it kind of determines your continental cup venture I guess!!!???!!!??As a Mexican follower pointed out earlier, now they’ve done away with relegation the next season just like it’s always been NFLThe NFL champion (Super Bowl) is determined at the end of 16 league games followed by elimination rounds and final whereas in Mexico it takes two league seasons (might end up with two different title holders) and one rounds of eliminationI don’t know the similarities were obvious for me and of course maybe I’m wrong

  16. Dark Knife Eats says

That guy is such a Ponce….

  17. Olle Jansson says

I think you have to alter your self-imposed rules so that you can tell Mike that you do not want to keep a player in order to get rid of some of all that deadwood.

  18. ThreeRunHomer says

Philadelphia isn’t known for cheese. The cheese steak sandwiches use god awful “Cheese Whiz” cheese-like goo made from petroleum. Yum.

  19. Gerard Turley says

No mexican cup?? Maybe that's why you got 27M Kev. Here take that lads and sit out this season…😂😂 Couldnt make it up!🌵⚽️

  20. Conor Howard says

Think Mike might have earnt the sack after this window.

  21. Travis Nix says

If this was real life, at least half the crowd in Philly would be cheering for Chivas

  22. Seanny T-B says

Does Mike have a Mexican cousin? Mexican Miguel?

  23. Black Diamond Euphoria says

six foot two in mexico is really really tall

  24. conor shaughnessy says

So….Mike out? Also, I believe that is Philadelphia's backup goalkeeper, just a heads up. Are you not in the concacaf champions league?

  25. Rob Murphy says
